Previously, we returned to Faslane to rearm after destroying a portion of the Soviet amphibious landing force going after Iceland, forcing it to turn back.
Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the Her Majesty's Royal Navy 1984 NATO Campaign (a part of DotMod), aka the UK campaign. We are starting with an Oberon class diesel-electric sub... S-13 HMS Osiris.

25-DEC-84 Near Faslane, UK
We scrambled out of Faslane on Christmas Day, and it was no holiday for us. The cook did manage to get some proper prime rib and some Yorkshire pudding before we left port so the crew at least have something to look forward to after their watch.
26-DEC-84 Norwegian Coast, northwest of Trondheim
We arrived at the specified sector, Blue 049, then we moved northeast slightly as we detected a Soviet submarine contact in the area.
We intercepted the contact. I immediately ordered silent running, and check the local water conditions. There is a weak duct and weak layer at 60m. With no obviously contact other than a trawler, I decided to check below the layer, and went to test depth (198m). In the meanwhile, all six tubes are checked, all torps are set to "passive, snake, same depth".
We detected a second contact, but this was a merchantman even further away.
When sonar reported a transitory signature, as if someone just thrashed their propellers... a momentary cavitation noise. bearing east. It sounded like a diesel boat. Then it faded.
I ordered a torpedo fired in the enemy's bearing, and this one had a broken wire almost immediately.
I ordered a 2nd torpedo fired, while the first is reloaded. Torp 2 kept the wire. I ordered it turned to 060 to start a dogleg, and then turned the sub to 135, to get some lateral movement to pinpoint the Foxtrot's range.
We regained contact on Foxtrot and it had a range between 6 to 8 km. I turned torpedo 2 toward the enemy sub, but it seems the Foxtrot had heard the torpedoes and is taking evasive action. I turned toward to north as I don't want to get closer by going south.
That decision turned out correct, as we soon detected one enemy torpedo coming westward, almost directly at where I was. I turned my torpedo, still under guidance, toward what we think the other sub would be. Then we cut the wire, set the tube to reload, and starting sprinting northward at flank speed of 17 kt. We need to get out of the torpedo's 2 km bubble. And we managed to do that. I also turned to heading 045 to keep track of our Foxtrot. I then fired a torpedo 3 (this one had a broken wire), followed by torpedo 4 (this one kept the wire), as I realized all early torpedoes will miss, even as the Foxtrot vanished again (gone silent). No matter, as it will surely reappear when the torpedoes reach it.
We cotninue, and it was clear the mad dog torpedoes will all miss, as we regained a solution on the Foxtrot. I turned torpedo 1 toward the enemy and Foxtrot had gone evasive on us, as it was heading southwest, and now it's heading southeast, away from us. By this time, our Tigerfish has closed to about 3 km. With plenty of life left on the torpedo, I set it to activate now, and started toward the enemy sub. Seems he's turned around and was heading roughly 045, and when he heard the torpedo coming, he turned away to 090. No matter, the Tigerfish will catch him.
We steered the Tigerfish torpedo toward the Foxtrot, and Foxtrot is doing evasive manuevers, but I have it lined up. The torpedo has the Foxtrot in its seek cone. Foxtrot dropped a noisemaker, but we manuevered past it easily, and there was no time for Foxtrot to launch another. The torpedo struck it halfway between the conning tower and the stern, sending it to the bottom.
We reloaded the empty tube, checked the ocean one more time, then disengaged, sending an after-action report to HQ.
Only to receive this cryptic reply, "That was not your mission target."
Well, guess there is another sub we have to hunt down then...
And the war continues...
