Doug just bought a truck. Robert just signed papers on a house.
Both have been incarcerated, and despite many employers denying formerly incarcerated job applicants, both have worked to succeed at Industrial Steel Treating Co. in Jackson, Mich.
"When I was asked one of the reasons why I wanted out of prison, it was because I wanted to be a member of society, right?" Doug said. "Being able to get a good job and make a decent living is being a member of society."
This video is part of a series raising awareness about the systemic barriers returning citizens face after they're released from incarceration and what works to help them succeed despite those obstacles.
