"Surennatalia" - composed in 1998 by Rudolf Haken. Commissioned by George Brock for cellists Suren Bagratuni and Natalia Khoma. Recorded August 21, 2008 at Horseshoe Bottom Nature Preserve, Collison, Illinois. The Prelude begins with a theme in 13/16 time which resembles the "Mission Impossible" soundtrack, indicating that the suite should be attempted only by virtuosos. This is followed by a funeral march. The third movement is entitled "Rag à grande vitesse", after the "train à grande vitesse" (French high-speed train). The title of the second rag, "Rag des regrets", is derived from "Valse des regrets" (the French name for Brahms' Waltz in A-flat Major). The work concludes with a Gigue.
