Verónica Abad's complaint against President Daniel Noboa for alleged political gender-based violence, currently being heard by the Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE), will be put on hold while a recusal motion is filed against Fernando Muñoz, the judge hearing the case.
This recusal motion was filed by Diana Jácome, presidential advisor, on August 26 and aims to have Judge Muñoz no longer pursue the case, but instead assign another judge by lottery.
Consequently, Fernando Muñoz decided on August 28 to "suspend the deadlines and time limits for the processing of this case until the recusal motion filed is resolved."
A recusal motion is filed when a conflict of interest is alleged between the accused and the judge. The appeal may or may not be granted.
