How to make a grimy boom bap type beat. In this video I'm making a grimy boom bap beat in Ableton Live 11. This tutorial is my first ever for 2022. Learning how to make old school boom bap beats doesn't need to be a challenge. You just need to study the sounds and aesthetic that you want to achieve. I recorded this video to show you that it can actually be quite simple to come up with a grimy boom bap hip hop type beat if you follow my simple tutorial in Ableton Live 11.
In this tutorial I go over how you can successful get a good drum bounce and swing. I also touch on how to layer instruments, drums and samples to make your beats sound more organic. Sampling is a great way to achieve the Griselda (Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine, Westside Gunn, Boldy James, etc) style in your beats similar to what Daringer or The Alchemist might produce for them. I think anyone from Griselda would bar up on this grimy boom bap type beat instrumental.
Although this beat was created in Ableton Live 11 you can use the same methods and ideas in any DAW. Including Maschine, Akai MPC, Logic, Pro Tools, FL Studio and literally any other program you can think of. Hip Hop is Hip Hop no matter how it is created!
