Spiritism is a philosophical, scientific, and religious doctrine codified by Allan Kardec in the 19th century, based on the belief in God, the immortality of the soul, reincarnation, and communication with spirits. According to Spiritism, life on Earth is only a transitory phase in a continuous process of spiritual evolution, in which the soul reincarnates several times to learn and morally improve itself. This evolution is governed by the law of cause and effect, where good or bad actions generate consequences that impact the soul's destiny.
Furthermore, Spiritism proposes that the spirits of the dead can communicate with the living through mediums, being influential in human life. It also argues that the universe is inhabited by spirits in different stages of development, not limited only to Earth. Although based on the moral teachings of Jesus Christ, Spiritism does not follow rigid rituals or dogmas, focusing on charity, love for one's neighbor, and inner reform as fundamental practices for spiritual progress.
Spiritism seeks to unite science and spirituality, considering itself an "observational science" that studies mediumistic phenomena. Despite many of these ideas not being accepted by traditional sciences, Spiritists believe that, in the future, science will recognize these phenomena. In short, Spiritism proposes an integrated view of existence, where each individual, through their choices and actions, has the power to shape their destiny and achieve spiritual progress.
