Derivative Mode and PID Control
In digital controls all PID blocks provide the derivative mode. Although used in only about 90% of the loops, the importance of the derivative mode is more than this suggests. A common application of derivative is in slow temperature loops in reacting systems. These are among the most important loops in a plant.
