GoPro Post Production Workflow
While my main work as a cinematographer is done with high end cameras with elaborate rigs and accessories, the GoPro is my favorite camera system to shoot on in my leisure. Whether I am strapping it on one of my dogs at the park, or flying it in the skies with my DJI Phantom, I am always impressed with what I am able to capture with these little cameras.
Since most of the stuff I post on YouTube is GoPro related, I get a lot of questions about how I go about setting up my cameras and handling the footage during editing. This video should give you a basic guideline for handling your GoPro footage in post-production.
While a lot of people use the GoPro as strictly a recreational action cam, I like to use it as a filmmaking tool. I have mixed GoPro footage with footage from DSLRs, and even RED cinema cameras on projects. The key is to capture and preserve as much data in the image as possible so that you can push the image in post.
