Simple circuit for charging batteries (as well rechargeable as non-rechargeable alkaline batteries).
Be careful When charging alkaline batteries. Charging current MUST be very low.
The proposed circuit is a simple current source, so the charging current remains constant (12.5mA or 25mA
depending on the position of the jumper).
The charging current depends on the resistor R, and can be calculated for the formula: I=1.25V/R
Supply voltage has to be greater than the voltage of the battery of more than 4V. For example, if you
want to charge 1.5V battery, the supply voltage has to be greater than or equal to 5.5V, for 9V batteries the supply voltage has to be greater or equal to 13V. The maximum safe supply voltage is 40V, but heat dissipation may be very high so the bigger radiator is needed.
