Hi! That’s a video of me sliding down the slide at YouTub Headquarters. What the heck, right?
It’s been over a year—actually almost a year and a half!—since my last Public upload. If you follow me on other social media (Twitter @tmikemartin, IG @tmichaelmartin), you’ll know what’s been going on in my life. But I bet a lot of y’all don’t, so I thought I’d upload this video (and write this Absurdly Long Description) to clue ya in. 😄
Basically: The last couple years have been deeply challenging—professionally, personally, and mentally. I’ve been blessed with some amazing opportunities (writing scripts with my heroes, working at BuzzFeed), but I hadn’t quite felt like the earth beneath my sneakers was firm. Recently, though, things have taken a turn for the beautiful: Beginning July 9, I am YouTube’s Learning, Family, and Impact Content Strategist.
Yeah. It’s hard to believe: I work at YouTube, and my job is to help Creators. How fabulous is that?
Getting here has been what The Beatles would call a long and winding road, but I’ve grown and learned so much along the way. The biggest lesson: Life is long and offers many surprises, and the wisest thing we can do is make peace with the fact that things rarely go according to plan...because they often go better than planned. I’d like to make a video about this lesson and other things I’ve learned, so if you’re interested in that, please let me know in the Comments.
Thanks for reading this. Truly. If you’re still reading this, you are one of the people who led me to this unexpected, vaguely miraculous place. And I heart you with my whole heart.
