When tasked with making a short smartphone film, I immediately took to music for inspiration. I wanted to create something with to which most could empathise, so I focused on the universal themes of love, loss and anger. Whilst listening to the melancholic music of Jacob Lee, I was particularly moved by his song I Still Know. It is riddled with purity and contains simple yet heart-capturing phrases and imagery – “setting the tone” for my short film.
The film is a commentary on the volatility of life, and how little control we have over it and all that happens within it. I used the analogy of a blooming flower to describe the everchanging nature within an individual life, in any facet that one may interpret it and the subsequent loss we feel once a flower’s bloom has reached its end.
Although each distinct flower may bloom at alternate times, for different intervals and during certain circumstances – Flowers are made to bloom. We all know that a flower cannot spread its petals forever, but we know we can enjoy its allure in its wonderful temporarily.
