Rooting Fig Cuttings experiment
Normally I wrap the top of the cuttings with parafilm to prevent the cuttings from drying out. Then I make a Fresh cut at the bottom of the cutting and only cut off a very thin piece off the bottom. Then I scrap the cuttings on three sides slightly just down to the light green cambium layer just under the dark outer bark of the cutting. Next I brush on Clonex rooting gel on the bottom and all the scraps of the cutting. Then set them in moist (not wet) Promix or other light, well draining medium. I root mine in 32oz clear plastic cups with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage and watering. I prefer the clear plastic cups because I see the progress. I put the cuttings on a heat mat and try to keep the rooting room at around 75. The rooting cups are out of direct sunlight and in the unlit side of the room. I get about 98% success with this method.
