This is the story of the path I took from teaching High school English to becoming a professional software engineer. Yes it took me 9 years, but it really didn't need to! If I were starting from scratch today and started with freeCodeCamp from the beginning it'd be much quicker.
I started with little structure to my learning, but once I settled on web development via freeCodeCamp I learned the skills I needed.
After that, in person meetups were crucial for me to make the connections I needed to land my first opportunity.
Networking gets a bad name, but getting to know people in your chosen industry is crucial for success.
