You are looking at 1982-P Kennedy Half Dollar.
But not just any run of the mill 1982-P… this example lacks a very important feature on the coin’s reverse.
The Mint’s engraving department was under stress in the early 1980s to produce as many coins as it could as cheaply as possible.
To do this, the mint overused dies and repaired damaged dies to keep them in use. The FG initials of former Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro, which were supposed to appear to the immediate right of the eagle’s tail feathers, were polished off the dies during one such repair.
This results in the 1982-P NO FG mint error that you see here.
This isn’t a rare mint error- you can find them in bags and rolls of 1982-P half dollars- but they are well-known and collectors and dealers have been seeking them out since their release.
Today, an MS65 example, such as this, might bring $80 or more. This one has a gold QA check sticker. Maybe it would grade MS66 today.
Avoid circulated examples, unless you are on a tight budget.
