Jarrod started his successful YouTube channel just over five years ago as a creative side hobby and now has amassed over 379k subscribers (sometimes known as followers or channel memberships) across Jarrod's Tech and Jarrod's Laptops, turning this hobby into a full time job. In 2019, he decided to quit his job in IT in order to pursue content creation full-time and hasn't looked back since. Jarrod's Tech (and Jarrod's Laptops) has a lot of great insights into the best tactics for getting your YouTube career started as a YouTube Creator, picking your content type, as well as how to sustainably grow your audience. Our guest also pulls back the curtain on how YouTubers monetise their content in 2020 as ad revenue becomes less lucrative for content creators. The show then concludes with Jarrod discussing his humble beginnings and how he has evolved to become a YouTube star over the past five years.
Jarrod discusses what goes into becoming a successful YouTuber, the money involved and content creator journey. He gives us insights into the difference YouTube premium has on revenue, the YouTube partner program and how YouTube ads work. Jarrod'sTech also utilises affiliate marketing, sharing links for products he reviews in his YouTube video content to sites like Amazon. Unsurprisingly, Jarrod did not share the exact money he makes from YouTube, and he isn't the highest paid YouTuber, but he earns enough for him to have quit his full time job a few years ago. We also hear about the YouTube algorithm and how that affects his revenue and money.
