Ski Touring Morocco | High Atlas Mountains to the Sahara with Ice Axe Expeditions
This trip to Morocco with Ice Axe Expeditions was one for the books. We started in the colorful streets of Marrakech, headed up to the abandoned ski lifts of Oukaïmeden, and hiked into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains.
Ski touring around Mount Toubkal — the highest peak in North Africa — was both challenging and unforgettable. A blizzard kept us from reaching the summit, but it delivered some of the best powder turns of the trip.
After days in the mountains, we crossed the country toward the Sahara, rode camels into the dunes, and ended the adventure skiing down golden sand at sunset.
This trip brought together everything I love — remote mountains, deep culture, raw landscapes, and a little bit of chaos. Grateful to Ice Axe Expeditions for making it happen, and to have captured a piece of this wild ride on camera.
