One thing that has gotten me through some of the most difficult times in my life has been the music of Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler, later John Coltrane, David S. Ware, Charles Gayle, Peter Brötzmann. The drumming of greats like Rashied Ali, Sunny Murray, Milford Graves and Ed Blackwell left a deep impression on me. I’ve never really been able to play in that style, but I have always loved trying. It’s been years since I really tried to sit behind the drums and play that way, and I, frankly, suck at it. But in my quest to document my life playing this instrument, I’m putting this up anyway.
