This is my first time building a complete staircase for the farmhouse. So far, building DIY mitered box newel posts is the most challenging woodworking project I've tried because it requires jointing, planing and fitting the miters perfectly to get a box newel post that looks like one solid piece of wood with no seams. After a few attempts I finally figured out a system that works well and the finished product looks great.
