And in such cases, I have to spend a long time explaining why using more expensive tools, in our case rollers, can not only improve the quality of the work but also allow it to be completed faster. So, since this topic has become a pain in the neck for me, I decided to conduct a test to demonstrate which paint rollers can achieve the best results.

And in such cases, I have to explain at length why using more expensive tools, in our case rollers, can not only improve the quality of the work but also allow it to be completed faster.
So, since this topic has become a pain in the neck for me, I decided to conduct a test to demonstrate which paint rollers can achieve the best results.
For this test, I'll be using 100mm rollers in the price range of up to 300 rubles. It wasn't possible to buy the necessary rollers in our city, so I had to order them online.
Anza Elite rollers in this category are made from dense Felt fabric with a pile length of just 5 mm. This short pile, combined with high density, allows for a perfectly smooth surface. These rollers can be used for applying marine and other two-component paints. Each mini-roller is designed with an internal bearing, reducing drag when working on smooth surfaces.
Platinum series rollers are made from Antex fabric with an 8 mm pile. Microfibers effectively absorb liquid oils and paints, allowing for a very thin layer of application. If needed, the Anza Platinum set can be equipped with an extension pole to increase the reach of the tool. Roller kits are available in various widths, allowing you to choose the perfect option for painting surfaces of varying sizes.
For the paint test, we use 12.5 mm gypsum plasterboard (GKLV) manufactured in Kungur.
To prepare the surface for coating, we use the following primer.
Pour the paint and begin testing. The testing procedure is as follows: two coats of primer, drying between coats. Then two coats of paint, drying between coats. After applying both coats, we evaluate the results.
The Anza Platinum roller performed well. The coating is fairly even, and application is predictable. However, there are some drawbacks, such as some piling. There is some shagreen, not much, but it's present.
The Anza Elite roller is the clear winner in today's test, although it's not the most expensive. Working with the roller is predictable, application is easy, and there's no piling. The piling is minimal.
The Mako roller, with a density of 800 g/m², performed more like a roller for facade work, partly due to its 10 mm pile thickness, and partly because of the piling, which I believe is unacceptable for interior finishing. However, it covers well. The paint applies fairly thickly and provides a decent layer, but this comes at the cost of surface quality, resulting in a significant shagreen. The Mako roller, with a density of 920 g/m², covers well and is predictable during application. Paint consumption does increase due to the 10 mm nap length. The shagreen finish is acceptable, but the roller sheds catastrophically. In my opinion, it's perfect for façades.
The Decor roller from the store next door is completely worth the price, especially for projects that don't require much quality. It creates a fairly decent shagreen finish. It also sheds fairly well. Furthermore, the roller's coat is designed with a seam that imprints beautifully on the surface. I wouldn't consider this a suitable tool, but for budget-friendly projects, this roller is perfect.
And finally, a foam roller (molten polypropylene), as recommended for water-based paints.
