ME_603: Turbomachinery: Torque Convertor
The fluid flywheel is used to function as a clutch, is able to transmit full engine torque to the gearbox without any change in it. The torque converter is also a kind of fluid drive but it accomplishes a change in the torque by providing a variable gear ratio. For that purpose, an additional member called a stator is used in its construction. Its gear ratio is maximum when starting from rest and decreases as the vehicle gains speed.
