Jonathan Wilson - 'Inverting the Pyramid'
I have loved football since I was a young child, and I fought hard against my school masters who believed it to be a hooligan's game. They ought to have read this fine treatise that examines the development of footballing tactics from the invention of the modern game to the most recent innovations, such as the lone striker (hence completing the inversion of the pyramid).
Very highly recommended, even if you're not a huge fan of the game.
