🎨✍️ In this video, Marina shows you another fun techniques to loosen up your portrait drawings.
This exercise helps us improve how we see things, only concentrating on lines and shapes and not on detail.
The goal here isn't perfection, it is more about loosing up and getting into the creative flow. You can set a timer if that works for you. I did them in small grids but it might be better to draw them on a larger paper! You have to accept that they turn out a bit wonky but they are very expressive!
1. Choose a subject to draw — you can find some reference pictures on my Pinterest Board
2. Set the timer for 2 minutes f.e.
3. Draw with a crayon, a pen, fine liners, watercolour pencils or like me, Neocolour II’s
4. Focus your eyes on some part of the face and begin moving your pencil to record what your eyes observe. You can start where ever you want, try different starting points.
Do not look down at the paper as you draw. Concentrate on how the shapes, lines and features relate to one another. Do not lift your pen from the paper!
I really enjoyed doing these blind drawings, although I found it very challenging not to correct them and let my perfectionism take over!
