Building a Digital Bookshelf in D3.js
Here we build a little digital bookshelf from data about the books I've read. You can fork the ObservableHQ Notebook and get your own version up in minutes.
You can take your reading history from Goodreads and import it into the Notebook (or create a spreadsheet manually), and then it's easy to start exploring and visualising the data with D3.js. We'll first create a custom table that also displays book covers. Then we'll look at how to populate a timeline where we can see our books, when we read them, and how long it took.
You can then take the bookshelf in any direction you want, leveraging the rich set of examples on the site.
