Needham House
Needham House in Devizes is a new build development consisting of 47 state-of-the-art apartments within a residential complex. Opened in the Summer of 2017, it provides an Extra Care Assisted Living Scheme to individuals aged 55 years and over in a high quality, town-centre location.
Built in collaboration with Wiltshire Council, this selection of 1 & 2 bedroom apartments are managed through Homes4Wiltshire. They provide an assisted living programme alongside additional care services for residents that require it, and with the option of independent living facilities for more able bodied individuals.
To encourage social interaction and create a friendly local community, the development has a communal activity lounge in which all residents can congregate for recreational purposes. Alongside this, a laundrette and cafe can also be found on site to create a fully functioning living environment.
The entire development required an £8 million investment from Wiltshire Council in an attempt to provide affordable rent options for the elderly community. To ensure a comfortable environment for every resident, Helec supplied and commissioned a EM16NG Energimizer Combined Heat & Power Unit. This provides the development with a thermal heat base load of 35kW/th for space heating and domestic hot water usage. It is also able to generate 16kW/e of on-site electricity per hour which effectively reduces the overall costs by 140,160kWh.
Helping to encourage senior residents to establish themselves in suitable housing, the EM16NG CHP is forecasted to save Wiltshire Council more than £9,650.00 per year in energy costs for Needham House. This combines with an average annual CO2 saving of more than 52,700 kgs.
