Divergence of a vector
If a vector is operated with del operator scalarly, it is called divergence of a vector.
Physical meaning of divergence
If the divergence of vector is positive at a point in the given fluid, then the fluid is either expanding or its density at that point decreases. In other words, the point is a source of a fluid.
On the other hand if the divergence of the vector is negative at a point in the fluid, then the fluid is either contracting or its density at that point increases. In other words, the point is a sink of the fluid.
Solenoidal vector field
A vector field is said to be solenoidal if its divergence is zero.
