We will migrate an OpenDirectory Master server to a brand new VM that we created last week.
In this video, we will go through the steps that you'd take to make sure you have a current archive of your OpenDirectory server and then ultimately restoring that archive to the new server.
One of the things that would need to be done first is to prep the server with regards to hostname and IP and make sure that your DNS is squared away. In an effort to make this video sub-10 minutes, I didn't film that portion, however that is a must in pretty much any environment with any servers. Once you set your software services up, they shouldn't change without the potential for major issues.
I will remote control both the MacMini (original OpenDirectory server) as well as the newly created virtual machine. I prefer doing things this way as I don't have to worry about moving between machines so much, as well as it made filming the whole thing much easier in the end.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to us, and we would be glad to offer any advice we can in an effort to help you out.
Thank you for watching!
