This will likely be the last Intruder video for a long time. To provide some context, I'll paste a comment I posted a few weeks ago on a YouTube video I accidentally uploaded as public. It was a typing video on a new keyboard I got, to which old subs were like "Where's the Intruder content?" and I said it likely wasn't coming.
"I have a deep appreciation and love for Intruder and the community that surrounds it. It has been an incredibly influential facet of my life ever since I started playing back in 2014. I never would have guessed seven years on that I would invest just over 2,000 hours into the game, and even more time into the community. It's just... as of late I have become increasingly disillusioned with the direction the game is taking. See: the next update whenever it comes out. Can't really talk about it until it's released. (It's released now. It's the skins and cosmetics. Of all things to add to the game... why???) There are other factors at play too, but it would take way too much time contextualizing it and I doubt people want to read that gigantic wall of text.
I never really expected this channel to become a thing either. Originally this channel was random clips from gameplay sessions with my friends and other random communities. There are far, far more unlisted and privated videos of other things than Intruder videos on this channel. Many delisted after the fact when the whole Intruder stuff happened. I had started making Intruder videos for the Intruder community back in 2015 because all of the original content creators from that time had moved on. Some even got rid of their channels entirely. Sucks cause they had some really cool videos, it'd be a trip to see them again.
The goal of the Intruder videos were mainly showing things like cool things that'd happened in game, new strats, that sort of thing. Or you know, just random Intruder gameplay in general since there was such a vacuum of content. Videos from some random player for the community. I used to hate when people would solely refer to me as "the YouTuber" because I just wanted to play the game and have a good time. I never really expected for anyone to subscribe to me, and it kind of became a joke where I'd openly question why in the hell people were subscribing to me. It always tripped me out when people would notice me in game and tell me they had bought the game because they saw my videos. I've always wanted to post those random clips from other games again but any time I did people would moan about it not being Intruder, so I just leaned into posting more Intruder content and left those videos unlisted.
Again, I love Intruder dearly. It's just that seven years on... thousands of hours later... the game being in the state that it's in... unless something drastically changes, it's time for something else for a while. Not really sure what I'm going to do with this channel.
I guess somewhat related, I have another YouTube channel where I post rare/obscure music from my personal collection. Sometimes other hard to find tracks that aren't on YouTube anymore. Mainly oldschool Hip Hop. Uploads there are seldom, but I've got loads of tracks I still need to get around to uploading sometime. / @latrecks5382 "
Playing over the last week with all the new players has been interesting. I'm really happy to see the game have player counts higher than ever seen before.
The reason I had made and posted these videos in the last week again was because I had thought "Hm. Well, something drastic did happen I guess. Might as well check it out again." However I quickly came to realize that what made these videos fun to make and made playing Intruder fun isn't there for me anymore. The original group I had played Intruder with has moved on from the game. Most any times I'd throw my servers up and wait for people, no one would join. The lobbies I'd join, everyone leaves. And by now the game having most of the same exact maps and mechanics that have been there for the last 7 years, I've already done most of what can be done in the game. This isn't trying to be a brag of any sort, I feel as if I've wrung out the most that I can with the systems present. By now it would be doing the same things I've done over, and over, and over, and over again.
Perhaps when this new player base gets a grasp on the wonderfully deep mechanics of the game, or there is new content like a bunch of new maps and gadgets I'll post a few new videos here and there.
Until then, for those trying to learn the game enjoy the back catalogue of videos. There are plenty of excellent strategies and pointers you can learn from them. I really appreciate the nice comments all of you have been leaving, but making more Intruder videos just wouldn't be healthy for me.
