CBSE Class 10th Physics Ch. 9 part 5 ( New session 2022 - 2023) | Complete CBSE Course |
Have you ever thought about why we can see our image in a plane mirror? It’s because of the phenomenon known as reflection. Light waves, sound waves, and water waves can undergo reflection. In this session, let us learn about the reflection of light and the types of reflection in detail.

When a ray of light approaches a smooth polished surface and the light ray bounces back, it is called the reflection of light. The incident light ray that land on the surface is reflected off the surface. The ray that bounces back is called the reflected ray.
Reflection is the act of light reflecting back when it hits a medium on a plane. Refraction is the process by which light shifts its path as it travels through a material, causing the light to bend.
Whenever light travelling in a straight line hits any surface, it is is either absorbed or reflected. Bouncing back of light rays after hitting any surface is called reflection of light.

The densities of all media are different, hence the speed of light varies as it passes from one medium to the other. Bending of light rays as they pass from one medium to the other is called refraction of light.
