This Women’s Month, we’re celebrating women who have shattered the glass ceiling in male-dominated industries. Daily Sun speaks with Ayanda Larkin-Harrison, a mum of two and activist, who is using all her knowledge and experience to teach other people about autism.

“Having a diagnosis of autism within a family is very isolating. You tend to lose friends and family. I’ve lost a husband as a result, so you then become really isolated from your community because you have a child who exhibits difficult behaviours that can be explosive at any time.
“People are genuinely scared and they tend to then shy away from you. Also, socially, it hasn’t been accepted yet. So, the idea around my advocacy is to bring social awareness and create acceptance of children like my son,” Ayanda said.
