This is going to be the last film where we see Ed and Lorraine Warren together on screen. So, don’t miss this one in theatres.
For the best experience, I’d recommend watching The Conjuring 1, 2, and Annabelle Comes Home before this. Skip Conjuring 3—trust me, it’s not worth it.
The demon Malthus shown in Conjuring 4 is the same one that Ed and Lorraine faced back when they first became demonologists. Then, in 1981, they confronted it again during the Smurls Haunting —something happened after that which led them to retire from investigations.
Personally, I really want to see how it all unfolds because the trailer already shows flashbacks, buckets of blood, a terrifyingly powerful demon, hanging scenes, and exorcisms. This one’s a must-watch.
The film has received an R-rating. Not because of nudity or excessive gore, but because the censors simply couldn’t cut it down—it was just too scary. So scary that apparently 2–3 foreigners got “possessed” after watching it. In fact, theatres abroad are calling in priests before screenings, handing out holy water to audiences, just in case an exorcism is needed inside the hall. Epic marketing move, James Wan.
