Is Apple done for 2023 already or will they STUN everyone with a surprise event that’s just weeks away? Aren’t we due some new AirPods Max? We’ve had no iPads all year, and SURELY we’re due our first taste of M3 by now? Plus - what’s SaranByte’s beef with me‽ Stay tuned for all this, and more!

So, Apple Events - if we’re getting one, the chances are we’re looking at October 24th, which, if Apple is looking to have in person guests at Apple Park would likely mean event invitations coming as soon as October 10th, 2 weeks ahead. Apple typically does this if there’s new hardware that needs to be seen in person - a new iPhone, redesigned MacBooks, iPads or Apple Watch. If they need press to get quick pictures or hands on, then two weeks gives time for them to arrange travel, accomodation and the rest. Of course, Apple in recent years has begun not releasing every new product at events, and in the case of things like the AirPods Max, even whole new product lines. AirPods Max is certainly something that I had on my list for this year as AirPods seem to have a 3 year refresh cycle, with the first generation of these having arrived in December of 2020, and fully announced with just a video drop, no notice, no event. So bear in mind, we could well see product updates in a similar vein with test hardware sent out to reviewers ahead of sales beginning.
So full on event or not, what are we expecting to potentially get updated?
If we start with the Mac, typically the new chips have launched in a MacBook Air, but given the recent release of the 15” model, Apple may skip the Air at this point and go with a couple of other devices, the 13” MacBook Pro that no-one wants, and the iMac which is still languishing with M1 inside to this day.
iMac also makes sense, because it gives Apple a way to make M3 look faster than it is by comparing it to the last generation iMac, (skipping M2) so the performance numbers will look much better. In general the iMac 24” was well received when it was launched, but there were certainly some who missed the dark display surrounds of the previous version. Give it a dark mode makeover (even if it’s 3 light and 3 dark colours?) and M3 and I think that will be the buzz product again.
Plus, all the Magic Keyboard, Mouse and TrackPad accessories can get updated from Lighting to USB-C or even, dare I suggest, MagSafe?
What else could we see this side of the holidays?
iPads could also be on the way, though not the pros most likely. We could well see an M2 version of the iPad Air, iPad mini could get a bump from A15 to A16 or even A17, and if its the latter, that’s basically a more energy efficient M1 in terms of performance now, which would make the iPad mini pretty compelling.
The base iPad 10th gen is still listed as “New” on Apple’s website, but rather than being replaced, that could see a price drop to maybe $379 or $399 and allow the ageing and lightning charging 9th gen iPad which is still available to be discontinued. Apple Pencil (1st generation) could well get updated too as it is also lightning powered, and some code has been spotted for a USB-C charged pencil too.

#iCaveAnswers related to my previous question: iPhone currently has a square camera bump. There’s a big need for digital zoom from 2x to 5x. Does the iPhone need 4 cameras? And could they be placed in a square design in a future iPhone?
I think 0.5x, 1x, 3x, & 5x with LiDar in the middle would be great

#icaveanswers I heard you and saranbyte are no longer on good terms? Is that true what happened to you guys doing a podcast together ??
@Pokemonscarlet18
#icaveanswers why doesn’t apple turn the Apple TV into a tv console too? Since it’s plugged in and costs just as much as the Nintendo switch I think it makes sense
@Pokemonscarlet18
#icaveanswers when is the next AirPods Pro update due and will Apple release AirPods 4? What possible features can they add? Any chance we get longer battery life on each bud ?
@Pokemonscarlet18
#icaveanswers when can we expect the next major MacBook Pro redesign ? I’ve had M1 Max MacBook Pro 16inch since launch and it still has 100% battery health with only 20 cycles I keep the after capped at 50% when plugged in! I’m also thinking of picking up a 15inch air but I’m waiting for the m3 chip will be a worthy upgrade ?
@Pokemonscarlet18
#icaveanswers when will you be upgrading your phone next? And are you planning on buying the AirPods Pro 2nd gen?
