Some additional notes on each step that were cut out during editing...
Step 1: Mock Up your design on a computer or sketch it out to help you visualize the design. Have a plan for what goes where and how you're going to achieve that. Buy stuff from the thrift store like fabric or graphics, it will save you so much money
Step 2: If the fabric is really light (ex. you're working with a white hoodie) you can use a pencil lightly and it will erase. Chalk however is always preferable.
Step 3: Make sure you have a seam allowances, this means leaving an inch of extra fabric on each edge so you have room to sew your stitches, you can always cut more off later.
Step 4: Make sure you pin only two elements together at a time, and pull the pins out as they approach the presser foot on your sewing machine.
Step 5: This is not a sewing tutorial, if that's what you need a good one I found is here: URL Make sure your fabric is not bunched up around the presser foot, and that you don't have unwanted fabric underneath what your sewing (ex. you accidentally sew the back of the hoodie to the front because some material from the back snuck underneath.
