Ineke Rop
Ineke Rop is a special woman who is committed to the Kenyan community with heart and soul. She has already visited Kenya seven times to support people with physical or intellectual disabilities in a specific center. Ineke is a nurse by training and despite her retirement she remains active in Kenya, where she helps people with dressing, care and financial support. She even built her own house for a woman named Eunice, who had a brain hemorrhage and is raising twins. Ineke is an inspiring example of generosity and dedication. The Order of Orange-Nassau is a royal distinction awarded to persons who have made a special contribution to society. There are six degrees in this order:

People who do volunteer work for a long time and thus contribute to society are often eligible for the Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau award1. Although this award is very similar to the Knight award, it is actually slightly smaller 🌟
In the west of Kenya, near Lake Victoria, is the village of Nyabondo where the Nyabondo Rehabilitation Center is located for disabled children. It has existed since the 1960s and is led by Kenyan nuns.
There are currently 65 children with a congenital disability staying there. These children stay at the boarding school for 9 months a year. During their stay, education, health and rehabilitation are provided. There is special primary and secondary education at St. Martin for disabled children. There is close cooperation with that. At the center we also offer training tailored to the disability. Knitting and sewing training, hairdressing training. Skills in Cooking, computer, handicrafts, Kenyan souvenir making are offered to enhance future prospects.
Every month, AMREF doctors visit for 3 days to operate on the children present in the hospital at the center (about 20 to 30 children per day). The specialized doctors perform plastic and orthopedic surgeries.
There is an intake department that is always available. These children are temporarily examined and determined whether they are suitable for operations. These children are then cared for at the center for a short period. Average 5-8 children per week.
There is a department for the community: people who are ill from the community and temporarily stay at the center for recovery. Some of them will also be operated on by AMREF. Average 10-15 patients per week.
There is a rehabilitation department: After the operation, children and caregivers stay for rehabilitation.
The rehabilitation equipment, such as braces, shoes, crutches and prostheses, are made in the center itself by the craftsmen. Dutch volunteers regularly come to Nyabondo to support the center in caring for the children and to occupy their free time. School Windesheim sends students twice a year for internships in the medical field. (physio, pmt, ergo). Without these volunteers/students, due to understaffing and no money, care would be limited to bed, bath and bread.
An average of 170-230 people stay at the center per month.
