Unspun World: 10 years on, the IS threat adapts and evolves

After a year full of setbacks in 2023, Islamic State (IS) group this year carried out a number of mass-casualty attacks in Iran and Russia that were a stark reminder of the group’s ongoing threat. June 2024 marked the 10th anniversary of IS’s “caliphate” declaration, with the group claiming that it was “growing stronger and expanding”.

BBC Monitoring’s jihadist media specialist Mina Al-Lami talks about the significance of this year for IS, its growing threat in sub-Saharan Africa as well as setbacks that continue to dog the group.
