I was gathering content for a story about the Private Prison Industrial complex in Lake City Florida. I was parked in a public park across the street from the Columbia County Correctional Institution and the privately operated Lake City CCA.
I started taking pictures and within seconds I was told that it is illegal to take photos of the facility. A few minutes later the Assistant Warden George Dedos would arrive on an ATV escorted by a CCA guard. George Dedos then preceded to assault and commit robbery against me by snatching my iPod.
A Federal Forestry Agent would show up a short time later. I asked the Fed Agent if I was being detained or if I was free to go. He informed me that I was free to go but that I would have to leave without my stolen property. I was forced to wait until Columbia County Sheriff's Deputy's arrived.
