The Ship Song (Nick Cave) - performed by The Barbarian Ship for the very first time. Just a few weeks ago, we road-tested The Barbarian Ship - a new music theatre currently in development in old port town Williamstown, in Melbourne, Australia.
This is an incredible story about a group of convict escapees from Tasmania, who hijack a ship, and end up encountering Samurai when they sailed into Shogunate Japan, then closed to the world. Some of these guys made it all the way back to England via China but were arrested and transported (again) or swung from the gallows on the Thames. Quite a yarn eh?
The Barbarian Ship brings together a spellbinding cast of scoundrels, scallywags, pirates, bilge rats, and rock'n'rollers... performing a wild set of sea shanties, psychedelic folk, and pirate songs - including music by The Sex Pistols, Bob Marley, The Pogues, Nick Cave, Spencer P Jones and The Green Mist.
