Cora Migration and Life in Colorado
Marketa Zubkova of the Hispanic Affairs Project presents on the Cora Indians, their way of life in Mexico, migration to Colorado, and integration in the Gunnison Valley.
Marketa comes from the Czech Republic and she has been an immigrant leader and advocate for the last 16 years. She started as a volunteer in several community projects promoting immigrant integration and diversity among immigrants on Western Slopes. Now her primary role with the Hispanic Affairs Project (HAP) is to provide immigration legal assistance to low-income families as a Department of Justice Accredited Immigration Legal Representative. She is one of the founders of our local immigrant group Inmigrantes Unidos de Gunnison and as a HAP's community advocate promotes immigrant integration on the local level. Marketa has done extensive research about the Cora Indians, an indigenous group from Nayarit living in Western Colorado, and their integration as a minority culture.
