effective method of:
.
Getting O2 into the lungs of a
person who has stopped breathing
and maintaining blood circulation for
a person who heart has stopped.
INTRODUCTION
. CPR stands for cardiopulmonary
PURPOSE OF CPR
To maintain an open and clear
airway(A).
• To maintain breathing by external
ventilation (B)
• To maintain blood circulation by
external cardiac massages (C)
• To save the life of the patient
• To provide basic life support till
medical and advanced life support arrives.
CPR PROCEDURES
1. Approach safely (watch & observe).
2. Check for unresonsiveness.
Tap or gently shake patient. Shout, ‘Are you
ok ?’ and Check for Carotid for 5-10 sec.
3. Shout for help or call EMS (Emergency
medical
services) for help.
4. Position the victim onto his his/her back,
on a firm
surface and support the head.
5. Open the airway (Head tilt, chin lift and jaw
thrust).
6. Check for breathing (Time: 3-5 seconds per
breath)
7. Look at the Chest and abdomen, listen and
7. Chest compression(30 chest compressions)
• Place the heel of one hand in the centre of the
chest.
• Place other hand on top.
• Interlock fingers.
• Compress the sternum at the depth 4-5cm
(1.5- 2 inch).
8. Rescue breath (2 rescue breath)
• Pinch the nose.
• Take a normal breath.
• Place lips over the mouth.
• Blow until the chest rises.
• Allow the chest to fall and repeat.
9. Do 4 cycles of 30 chest compressions
and 2 breath.
10. Recheck pulse (5 seconds) if NO pulse,
continue compressions/breathing cycles.
