Septianingsih Abdu, a resident of Tilangobula Village, Suwawa Timur, Bone Bolango District, Gorontalo, has an unusual physical condition.
This nine-year-old child has physical features such as apes. The jaw appears to rise forward, while around the face and the whole body is overgrown with a lot of thick fine hair.
According to local residents, Septi was born and grew to be abnormal because when she was still in the womb, her mother Fatma Nusi who was very cravings for fruits was often said to be the father of a monkey child.
Fatma Nusi admitted that she did not feel the strangeness when containing Septi. Septi was the second child of three siblings to be taken to the doctor for examination. However, according to the doctor the child did have a genetic disorder since birth.
"He was taken to a doctor. The doctor said it's okay, said this doctor who has been congenital from the stomach, "Fatma replied to reporters on Tuesday (17/3/2009).
Even though they have different physical characteristics with their children, Septi is not treated differently by her friends. Septi can play like a normal person, even the intellectual ability of second grade elementary school students is not inferior to other students.
Until now doctors in Gorontalo have not been able to ascertain the cause of this physical change. Doctor Irfandi who is also the secretary of Gorontalo Health Office plans to bring Septi to Jakarta.
The small hands wrinkled to write a line of words "my name is Septiningsih Abdul, the dream of wanting everyone to love" with strands of letters lined up neatly on a piece of paper.
It may be Septi, his nickname, indeed only aspires to one thing in his life that is accepted and loved by everyone around him with the condition of a body that is in short supply. Dense hair almost covered the entire body of this ten year old boy.
Not only hair, which makes people instantly see it similar to primates because of their protruding upper and lower jaws, puffy nose, downy, eyelids widen to the forehead and ears that have almost no holes.
Initially it must have been shocked, but if you had talked and looked at him for a long time, the strange view of this boy slowly faded.
"The first time Septi left her mother's womb, I was very surprised and the child almost fell out of my hands," said Ija, a village midwife who helped deliver Septi's mother, Fatma Nusi, ten years ago in Tilangobula Village, Suwawa Timur District, Bone Bolango District .
With the peculiarities he possessed, inevitably the presence of Septi to the world horrendous local residents, who then linked it to a curse.
One-eyed view, ridicule, gossip and even sympathy coming from neighbors is also something that is usually accepted by his family.
It's not that I never give up, but for Fatma, regret and tears don't seem to deserve to be poured out on Septi's presence, which is only physically different from other God-created humans.
Speech Becomes Reality.
"You want the fruit to continue, like just having a baby monkey." That was the sentence sent by Septi's father, Yusni Abdul (35) when Fatma was pregnant with her second daughter.
The sentence is likened to a curse by Septi's father who was upset because his wife always craved the fruits, then it was believed to be the cause of his child being born with a face like an ape.
"Maybe the words were heard by God and finally made it a reality as a trial for me and my husband," Fatma said with a sad voice, remembering the pain when pregnant.
Three years after Septi was born, Fatma was forced to raise her three children after being divorced from her husband who was embarrassed because he had children who were physically different from other normal children.
Although only as a housemaid, Fatma raised Septi lovingly, without distinguishing her from her siblings.
The pain of stabbing into the heart of Fatma, when she saw her daughter since the age of four, sometimes walked on all fours and looked agile like an ape.
"I often scold him when I walk on all fours. "The fear will become a habit and people will believe that he is almost like a monkey," Fatma said.
As a result, Fatma's efforts to eliminate her son's habits were successful. Septi now almost never walks on all fours, so there is no longer any behavior that is considered strange.
Even though he has an abnormal child and lives as a single parent, it never occurred to him to kill or throw away his daughter, as parents have been desperate lately.
"It's hard to go through everything, but I'm sure Septi is present in my life to see how much patience and affection for her," Fatma said.
