PSCORE campaign: A Trip to the DMZ, Imjingak, Odusan, and more!
PSCORE held an Imjingak Campaign to raise awareness for North Korean human rights and the issue of peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula by providing those who were interested in an all-expense trip to the DMZ, Imjingak, Odusan, and more! We were accompanied by a North Korean defector, who provided us with their unique and touching perspective while visiting these areas. It was an extremely informational and fun-filled day for everyone as we visited various locations, learned more deeply about North Korea, and made friends along the way.
The trip included visiting the Odusan Unification Tower, where we got to see exhibits on various topics relating to North Korea as well as a close-up view of North Korea through telescopes. We also visited the National Memorial Hall of the Korean War Abductees, where the emotional exhibits reminded us of the separated families and lost lives that resulted from the division of the Korean Peninsula. At Imjingak, we got to experience the proximity of being so close to the DMV that we could see North Korea with the naked eye, as well as hear the touching story of our North Korean defector guide. Along the way, we took lots of pictures and got to eat some great local Korean food!
The event was done during a time of social distancing level I. Safety measures such as masks, hand sanitizers, and temperature checks were implemented during the entirety of the event.
PSCORE’s 2020 Workshop series is centered around five topics relating to the issue of peaceful Korean reunification. The topics are: communication amongst North Koreans, South Koreans, and foreigners; predictions on North Korea after reunification; similarities and differences between North and South Koreans; pros and cons of Korean reunification; and human rights in North Korea. There are also several bonus videos, such as a video series featuring North and South Korean students playing a quiz-style game together to highlight some of the differences between North and South Korea in an entertaining way! The 2020 Workshop series is the first of its kind to feature this many people of various different nationalities from all over the world to come together and critically discuss the multifaceted nature of the Korean Peninsula and the issues it is currently facing. We hope that through this workshop, viewers can gain a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding peaceful Korean reunification and become inspired to take action in improving the lives of the North Korean people.
