Trends that have formed in the last few years are not sustainable and we will eventually have problems if we continue them. In this video, I share 5 consumerism trends that will end badly.
1. Luxury Apartments
Cities and towns across the country have been building luxury apartments that are extremely expensive. These luxury apartments will cause rent prices to go up, the displacement of lower income people, or the industry will bust.
2. Revitalized Town Centers
Once luxury apartments enter an area, the town center gets revitalized and many new, trendy businesses appear. These business create a fun environment to be in; however, everyone becomes extremely expensive. These town centers will make people go in debt, create a two class society, or will become ghost towns.
3. Tipping
Tipping has expanded to many different industries and is becoming a normal thing to do everywhere. The tipping system only benefits the employers because they don't have to pay their employees. Tipping will lower the expectation of a fair wage, stagnant wages, and make it impossible to plan out your life.
4. Temu
Temu is the most popular shopping app that offers extremely low prices for garbage quality goods. This has become extremely popular as people buy things for the experience of buying. Temu will make people wasteful, create addictive spending behavior, and promote waste.
5. Sports Betting
Sports betting was legalized in 2018 and has become increasingly popular. This is a dangerous normalization as it will cause people to make impulse decisions, lose money, and develop addictive behavior.
