Whiskey Before Breakfast (Fiddle Reel in D)
"Whiskey Before Breakfast," also known as "Spirits of the Morning" is a popular reel of Canadian origin (attributed to fiddler Andy DeJarlis - the Metis Fiddle Master - as part of his book "Canadian Fiddle Tunes from Red River Valley ") that likely has basis in traditional Irish / Scottish old time reels, most notably "Silver Spire" and "Greenfields of America". According to Paul Gifford, the reel’s popularity in the United States is fairly recent, probably stemming from its inclusion on a Voyager Records LP called “More Fiddle Jam Sessions,” performed by Texas fiddle champion Dick Barrett.
There exists a number of versions for numerous instruments beyond fiddle, including mandolin, banjo and guitar. I've recorded this on violin / fiddle for St. Patrick's Day 2022.
