How to Be a Sports Journalist
Carl Anka is a Staff Writer at The Athletic FC, with a focus on Manchester United. He co-wrote two bestselling books with the footballer Marcus Rashford, entitled ‘You Are a Champion’ and ‘You Can Do It.’ Carl is also a Senior Fellow of the John Schofield Trust and mentors on our 2023 programme for journalism students.
Ellen Ellard is is a freelance reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live Sport and Final Score, commentator for the Women’s Super League world feed and presenter for Manchester City Football Club. She started out at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire aged 18 working across their sport coverage and presenting the stations BBC Music Introducing show which gave her opportunities to present and create content for both Radio 1 and 6 Music. Ellen is a Senior Fellow of the John Schofield Trust and mentors on our 2023 programme for journalism students.
Gary Taphouse is a football commentator for Sky Sports and mentors and supports many young people across the industry. He is a longstanding supporter of the Trust and Senior Fellow on our 2023 programme for journalism students.
Nate Williams is chair of The Ability Group in Sports (TAGS) – the first network for disabled people in sports media roles. He is a producer and journalist and has covered many events and sports over his career. He has worked for BBC Sport, The Daily Star and The Sydney Morning Herald.
