Zoombombing Attack on Video conferencing platforms
During the COVID-19 pandemic, people were forced to work from their homes, so organizations and schools depended on video conferencing platforms for their workforce. This also got the attention of hackers, who hacked into these meetings and inserted inappropriate content, forcing these meetings to shut down. This attack is known as a Zoom bombing attack because the famous software for video conferencing is Zoom. Security professionals introduced various controls against such attacks. Participants needed to have access to a password to join a virtual meeting. After joining the virtual meeting, they were put into a virtual waiting room where the host of the meeting would allow them to join. While the meeting was in session, there were certain restrictions on participants sharing their screens. The password protection, virtual waiting room, and screen-sharing restrictions allowed organizations to counter Zoom bombing attacks.
