When the Sunwell was cleansed of corruption, peace descended upon the world, so tranquil that it could not help but arouse suspicion. Suddenly, as if on cue, the Scourge began a systematic assault on cities across Azeroth, extending beyond the Eastern Kingdoms. Warchief Thrall was forced to take decisive action and dispatched an expeditionary force under the command of Garrosh Hellscream to Northrend. Meanwhile, the human king, Varian Wrynn, finally returned to Stormwind and took his rightful place on the throne. He deployed a formidable Alliance force under the command of Bolvar Fordragon to confront the Lich King. Furthermore, the Alliance forces were tasked with suppressing any Horde resistance.
