SPEKTRUM MIDNIGHT THOUGHTS Prod. by saveme
Some conscious stuff right here. It's a storytelling conceptual song.
The song begins with our protagonist (played by Spektrum) sitting and noticing a wound on his wrist. Our protagonist then licks the blood off his wound. That hints the listener about our protagonist's disturbed mental state, but certainly, the listener cannot be completely sure just yet.
After that, our protagonist loses himself in a deep contemplation and hypothesis, (the part after which the song is named) and notices how the blood that flows in his veins, is so similar to humans themselves. For example, how his blood cells are born inside him, and they die inside him. And all they do is revolve in loops of the same vessels until they die or stop functioning. Same way humans are born in a loop of their daily activities and die within it.
After that our protagonist goes deeper into his hypothesis and notices how the walls of his blood vessels are similar to the societal limits of our world. How the walls keep the cells trapped inside the system, and how those invisible walls (or societal limits) keep humans trapped inside.
Past that, out protagonist notices how he cannot really free himself from the bondage and chains of the world, but he surely can free his blood from its bondage to him and his body.
After that, in our protagonist's words, he claims that a bunch of devilish creatures appear (assemble) around him and they point towards a knife kept on his table. Past which, our protagonist proceeds to pick up the knife and stab himself multiple times in an attempt to free his blood/blood cells from its/their bondage to his body.
The appearance of those "devilish creatures" is followed by a session of self-harm by our protagonist.
The "again" in the line "Them devilish creatures assemble again" hints that those devilish creatures assembled before as well. And if you remember in the beginning our protagonist already had a wound on his wrist, which was probably caused by self-harm.
Bottomline is, those creatures appeared before him prior to the beginning of the story as well! And that time they made him slit his wrist, whereas this time they made him stab himself.
While in reality, there were actually no creatures! But our protagonist was schizophrenic.
The song ends with a dying speech by our protagonist accompanied by the sound of an ambulance and birds in the background.
The title of the song (Midnight Contemplation) hints that the song was set at midnight, while the chirping of birds near the outro hint to the ascendance of the Sun in the sky (morning)
That shows our protagonist's outro speech was actually a few hours after the actual stabbing session, and he was on the brink of death at that moment!
By stabbing himself, our protagonist did not just free his blood from his body, but also freed himself from this world by taking his own life. That part has not been stated in the song and has been left up to the listener.
During our protagonist's last speech, you can actually hear some heavy breathing in the background, that hints towards his critical health condition during those moments.
This is basically the summary of the story of this song! It's the story of a mentally ill person! It's the story of someone made from Spektrum's imagination!
Peace!
