Nothing can save you from the E.M.M.I.
Happened to me while playing a Dread rando. The one run where I decided to not take out the white EMMI and go after other checks I had hints for.
Other Notes from an hour of testing:
You can't parry the EMMI, pressing X does nothing
It'll count as a death so long as the EMMI cutscene starts,
even if it's for a split second
It doesn't count as a death if the EMMI just hears you
Haven't been able to tell what happens if the EMMI is chasing you
(i.e. chase music is playing and EMMI zone doors are locked) but doesn't reach you before the screen fades to black. The timing is absurd, if it's even possible.
