After the tragic murder of Phoenix solo female hiker, valley women are on edge. Not only is it imperative that you arm yourself with physical techniques to defend against a potential attacker, but you must also practice awareness at all times.
Tips while solo hiking:
Tell someone where you’re going and your expected return time
Stick to trails you know that are somewhat populated
Remove ear buds, headphones or any other distractions
Invest in a GPS satellite messenger and/or set your phone to SOS mode
Carry a weapon that YOU TRAIN WITH and have it in hand
(I personally carry a kubaton and bear spray while hiking solo - check out the video below for more on that)
If attacked, strike vulnerable areas like the throat, nose, eyes, temple and groin
Here’s the deal…
Yes, you need to be aware. Yes, you need to acquire some physical skills. Yes, you must be equipped and vigilant.
BUT DO NOT LET FEAR STOP YOU FROM ENJOYING LIFE!
That’s what we are here to do, so live.
