// Calculating and Interpreting Moderation (Interaction) in SPSS //
Moderation is used to attempt to identify the interaction effect of two variables with respect to a third variable in a regression. This effect of an independent (X) variable on a dependent variable (Y) depends on the characteristics of another variable (moderator).
By default, there is no easy way to perform moderation in SPSS, as is the case with ANOVA or simple regression, for example. To do so, you have to perform calculations yourself prior to the regression, which are also important for interpreting the interaction effect or the main effects in the absence of an interaction effect. Therefore, in this video, I show how to prepare and perform moderation in SPSS, and how to interpret the results.
NOTE: For those who want to proceed with less effort, I highly recommend the SPSS plugin written by Andrew Hayes.

Note: On the subject of mean-centering: "Although mean-centering does reduce collinearity, this has no consequence on the estimation accuracy, hypothesis tests, or standard errors of regression coefficients in most circumstances you are likely to encounter.
