False Alarm Immunity

A Flame Detector’s false alarm immunity is as important as its speed of response to a real fire. Designing a flame detector that will respond quickly is relatively easy. Ensuring that it will respond quickly and be immune to false alarms is much more challenging.
The environments where flame detectors are used, especially outdoor, have many potential sources of false alarm. Sunlight, Lightening, Arc Welding, Flare Stacks, Reflections, Halogen Lamps, and many other sources of energy can affect detector performance and potentially cause false alarms. This can lead to costly shutdowns and a loss of faith in the safety system.
